This is my second blog post on The Rocking Raspberry Pi Challenge about overview of the Karaoke Machine.
Introduction
As part of the Rocking Raspberry Pi Challenge The Rocking Raspberry Pi Challenge (INDIA ONLY) I have to build a new type of Karaoke Machine which will test how well the Raspberry Pi Rocks using the video and sound capabilities of Raspberry Pi.
What is Karaoke ?
Karaoke is a form of interactive entertainment in which singers are sing along with the recorded music using a microphone and public address system. Lyrics are usually displayed on a video screen to guide the singer.

Karaoke Machine using Raspberry Pi
I have planned to build a Karaoke Machine as part of the challenge using Raspberry Pi and the following Hardwares which is provided by element14 for the Rocking Raspberry Pi Challenge.
- Raspberry Pi Model B with 8Gb SD Card pre installed woth NOOBS
- Pi-Face Control and Display
- Wi-Pi
I will also use other hardwares as follows which is need to build the Karaoke Machine.
- USB Sound Card
- Microphone
Software
I have considered three Operating Systems such as – Raspbian, OpenELEC and RaspBMC to use in Raspberry Pi for my project and not yet finalized which one to use.
XBMC will be the main application/player will be used for Karaoke.
Karaoke Machine Features
As of now I have planned to include the following features in my Karaoke machine project.
- Playing Karaoke from music files in SD card or from any other media.
- Playing Karaoke from Youtube
- Playing Karaoke via streaming from Wifi or any other supported device.
- Remote Control
