Saving the bees old style

I thought I'd share the results of my low-tech save the bees project with you.

The rain stopped and the sun came out but it was a bit windy and these plants sway a lot.

I've just been out testing close-up mode. Still a bit windy but better than the other day.

The bumblebees are still very active here but the Allium Sphaerocephalon have taken a bit of a pounding for sure.

    image

They quickly start to fade to grey once the bees have done their bit (or perhaps the rainfall here just rinses the colour out !).

Having increased to around 80 plants this year has made them last longer though.

The next offering on the bee-friendly buffet table was supposed to be Salvia, however it looks like I was sent frost-damaged stock earlier in the year, so I've just been removing it all and replacing with replacement plants which arrived this morning. At least these ones have all got leafy green bits where they are supposed to have leafy green bits by now. They have a bit of catching up to do but half of them should flower into October.

Today might be have been a good day for testing how well the TG-6 waterproofing functionality works. Some bees are weathering out the thunderstorm on the underside of the flowers.

The Leica Q3 compact camera will set you back by about £5k. It didn't stay on my selection list for very long. Slight smile

As with most compacts, the spares and accessories really crank the price up. So much so that a second camera is worth considering so when the first dies you can still make use of the £400+ of accessories you will probably end up with.

Olympus transferred its digital camera division to OM Digital Solutions a couple of years ago, so the future of the Tough TG-x series is a bit of an unknown. I've not seen any branded with the new OM System logo as yet. Not sure if that is a good sign or not, could mean that there is a TG-7 on the cards which will have the new branding.

The complementary lenses rely on a 40.5mm filter ring, which means you can use other lenses but you need the £20 conversion adapter to get you there. The LED and flash ring light guides are TG-x mounts and are around £30 & £50 each, otherwise you are looking at mounting a ring/macro light on the 40.5mm filter ring of the conversion adapter.
