Saving the bees old style

I thought I'd share the results of my low-tech save the bees project with you.

The rain stopped and the sun came out but it was a bit windy and these plants sway a lot.

I've just been out testing close-up mode. Still a bit windy but better than the other day.

    Hi Dave,

Amazing photos! Just flicking through them all, I'm wondering how you got them all consistently very good! What's the new camera?

    Hi Shabaz,

    Thanks.

It's an Olympus Tough TG-6 compact.

It has got good reviews for close-ups and it certainly delivers. Its close-up modes will autofocus reliably down to about 10mm and then on top of that you have manual options. There are also focus stacking and focus bracketing options if you really don't want to take any chances.

Unfortunately with the popularity of mobile phone cams, the options for compact cameras has suffered greatly and the prices have increased.

Also that built-in focus stacking capability! I recall that was unique too. I've never done focus-stacking (in-camera or out-of-camera) so I was curious what that was like.

With bees I think you would need a light field camera for focus stacking. But it should be good for anything static where you can mount the camera on a support and get in frame.
