Sixth Sense Design Challenge

About this Challenge | The Kit | The Prizes | Intro Video | Technical Documents | The Judges | Example Application | Terms & Conditions | The Challengers

All 20 of the sponsored Challengers for the Sixth Sense Design Challenge will receive for FREE the kit detailed in the table below.

Our judges will choose 20 applicants to become sponsored challengers, and they will receive the kit free of charge.

If you are not a sponsored challenger, you can still compete as a non-sponsored or independent challenger.  See note below.*

Featured Products

From STMicroelectronics:

image STM32 Nucleo-64STM32 Nucleo-64

From TE Connectivity:

image KMT32BKMT32B or KMT36H

image FX19FX19

image PTF Series RTD Sensor

Once the sponsored Challengers receive their kit, they will then embark on their journey of designing an exciting and original project that uses the  STMicroelectronics Sensor Tile and TE Connectivity Component PackSTMicroelectronics Sensor Tile and TE Connectivity Component Pack to give a Sixth Sense to a small remotely operated or autonomous vehicle, such as a drone, robot, or tunnel exploration device.

*NOTE: Even if you aren't a sponsored challenger, you can still participate in the Design Challenge as long as you integrate the STMicroelectronics Sensor Tile and TE Connectivity Component Pack into your design.

The deadline for project application submissions is 19th November 2018.

KMT32B or KMT36H Magnetic Angle Sensor

The KMT32B is a magnetic field sensor based on the anisotropic magneto resistance effect, i.e. it senses the magnetic field direction independently of the magnetic field strength for applied field strengths H>25 kA/m. The sensor contains two parallel supplied Wheatstone bridges, which enclose a sensitive angle of 45 degrees.

FX1901 Compression Load Cell

The FX1901 is a 1% load cell device with full scale ranges of 10, 25, 50 or 100 and 200lbf compression. This technology enables force sensing in a whole new class of "smart" consumer and medical products. Operating at very low strains, MicrofusedTm technology provides an essentially unlimited cycle life expectancy, superior resolution, high over-range capabilities, and a ratiometric span of 20mV/V.

PTF Series RTD Sensor

The PTF-sensor family combines a group of resistance temperature detectors (RTD) using a Platinum resistor in thin film technology as sensing element. The usage of platinum as resistive material guarantees high long term stability. Due to a small outline and low mass this RTD has a low time constant; therefore, it is a suitable solution for fast and precise feedback control systems.

This looks like a very interesting kit. I have a few STM boards already but not the STEVAL-STLKT01V1 which looks pretty cool. Once note though, the link for STEVAL-STLKT01V1 in the "SensorTile Development…

Hi Jon! Thanks for the heads up. That is the JIVE platform's attempt to make a product link automatically based on text, which happens sometimes. I've removed it, because clearly it didn't link up right…

Hi Jon! Thanks for the heads up. That is the JIVE platform's attempt to make a product link automatically based on text, which happens sometimes. I've removed it, because clearly it didn't link up right! The orange "buy now" button on the right should work, that's something we created manually.

Once note though, the link for STEVAL-STLKT01V1 in the "SensorTile Development Kit" block shows:

"Sorry, the product link wasn't applicable for your country."

    I'm in the US.
