Configuring LPUART on MCXN236 - A frustrating experience

I used the SDK examples to configure LPUART with my MCXN236 project. I think there is a bug in Flexcomm initialization inside LPUART_Init(). LPUART_Init() is auto generated by the SDK. 

I was not able to get LPUART working when Flexcomm was initialized as follows inside LPUART_Init():

status = LP_FLEXCOMM_Init(LPUART_GetInstance(base), LP_FLEXCOMM_PERIPH_LPUART);

 

I was able to get it working when I configured it as follows:

status = LP_FLEXCOMM_Init(LPUART_GetInstance(base), LP_FLEXCOMM_PERIPH_LPI2CAndLPUART);

What might be the reason for this?

    Thanks for this valuable post! I’m also having some trouble with the SDK examples, as I mentioned in my own forum post.

    For reference, I’m currently running these NXP toolchains:

    • IDE: MCUXpresso IDE V25.6 [Build 136] [2025-06-27]

    • SDKs:

      • SDK_2.x_FRDM-MCXA153, SDK Version: 25.09.00, Manifest Version: 3.15.0

      • SDK_2.x_FRDM-MCXN236, SDK Version: 25.09.00, Manifest Version: 3.15.0

    I've noticed similar things with code —the getting started documents for both the FRDM-MCXA153 and FRDM-MCXN236 boards don’t use exactly the same code as what’s provided in the current SDK example projects. This makes me wonder how the SDK examples are updated and tested, especially in relation to older or legacy SDK versions.

    It’s helpful to see others sharing their experiences and troubleshooting details—much appreciated!
