The Final Entry

It has been a long run, but this will be the final blog post for Real Time Coach, and it's going to be a long one.

 

First the hardware had to be assembled. As you can see in the pictures below, there is an arduino board with a wireless shield running the entire unit, with the heart rate monitor providing the amplified heart beat waveform. There is also an accelerometer which you can see in the second picture, attached to the multicolored jumper cables. I unfortunately ran out of time to add a head accelerometer, but it is built into all of the software, so it could be added fairly easily.

All of these items were placed into the main housing, which is then secured shut as shown in the picture below.

As you can see, there are now electrodes that provide readings from the user as long as they are placed approximately 8-10 inches apart depending on the person. This brings me to the communicator box. The communicator box is an arduino with a wireless shield as well as a bluetooth module. This essentially translates between the xbees and the phone.

This finally brings me to the phone. The app is built to handle a virtually unlimited number of real time coaches or approximately 30/second. This allows for entire teams to be displayed on a single phone so the coach or medical official can receive all relevant data very efficiently. The app looks like this:

not that you could do too much without the device itself.

 

 

So there is the Real Time Coach in all of its glory(or lack thereof).
