Intro
This is a another facet of the recycle/upcycle design challenge project where I am repurposing as much as I can from a 23 year old PC. In this episode I take a look at the the CD ROM drive from the old PC.
The video shows a serendipitous discovery about the CD rom drive:
Discussion
I was wondering what I was going to do with the CD rom drive, but when I took a closer look, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the CD drive could be used stand-alone to play audio CD's. This actually may turn into something we use with CD's obtained from used/discount stores. I just need to add a power supply and a nice cover.
My hat is off to the original designer who included stand-alone audio CD player capability, including a headphone jack, volume control and a track select button.
I have been hacking away at the PC chassis trying to repurpose some of the sheet metal, but it is tough slogging, partly because I don't have ideal tools for the job, so no completed video of that work yet.
