Project: ferris farm post 11

Here is an update on the build again

since my last post i have installed the bearings and started work on the rotation this has proven more difficult than expected due to small inaccuracies in the wood

to compensate for this i have been gradually sanding the disks in areas that are slightly catching and the disks are rotating more freely each time

i have added a groove into one of the disks which sits a cable that will rotate around the disk and the motor to give the required rotation

i am currently using the sample code that was kindly given by RWReynolds  to test the motor

i have wired up one of the 3 LED boards that will sit above the plants each board will use 5 red 4 blue and 3 green LEDs these will not run through the MCU as they will be always on but i will have a switch on the top to turn them on and off when not in use

I have been doing a little work on the programming side but still having some issues with this not worrying to much at the moment as there is still alot of work to be done on the mechanical side of things

i will leave you here and get back to making fine adjustments to the design and my next post will be a video of the working rotation

You are more than welcome Shane. Glad it was of some use. image

I'm working on trying to read the sensor-puck from a Raspberry Pi while I wait on LEDs and a new pump. I think I have the wrong BLE dongle however. SiLabs provided Windows logger software, binary and source code. I'm pretty sure I can get the code ported to Linux if I can get the dongle to work correctly. I can see the dongle and even scan and find the puck. But no pairing or data either direction right now. SiLabs uses a Bluegiga, actually a SiLabs company, BLED112 Bluetooth Smart Dongle and I have a Plugable which is Broadcom based. I can't even get the Plugable to work on Windows so I can test the SiLab software. So.... I guess it's time to get a BLED112. They're a little pricey though at $15 vs $6. Maybe that's why the Plugable is not so reliable. lol...

I do have the EFM32ZG logging the internal temp sensor to InitialState through a Pi. That's pretty cool. So any other sensors I add to the system will be easy to add to the log.

And I think I'm going to incorporate the Wurth LEDs into my array as well. There's quite a few red and blue LEDs in the kit. I have done a good bit of SMD soldering by hand so it shouldn't be too bad.

    Cheers,

    Rick
