Thank you for selecting our entry into the design challenge. We are getting cracking on the plan. The idea is to grow Lettuce and Strawberry in vertical racks. Since both the plants are currently non-seasonal, we will have to germinate our own seeds as saplings from nursery are not available.
Step 1 is to set up a germinating room. We are building a small air conditioned enclosure for the saplings to get started ASAP. Once the main growing area is set up - we will move the germination setup to the main area as well.
Step 2 is to plan the civil work for the main area. The critical thing here will be to incorporate electronic control into the design of HVAC, Lighting and Plumbing systems. Monitoring systems will also need to be planned.
We will keep you guys posted about the week-on-week happenings. If there are any vertical farming practitioners here - i would like them to guide us on the plants that are suitable for this operation. Also - any reference material that can be shared about the best growing practices for ensuring healthy plats will be nice.
