OFFICIAL-Qi Lime Pi SLICE...A Simplified SMALL Version Using the New BQ51050B!

16 Nov 2012

Hello World,

I just wanted to show off a new product of mine called the Qi Lime Pi SLICE. This utilizes the new chip BQ51050B. This new device from TI has a built in battery charger, allowing for over 90% efficiency! The components and PCB space is reduced significantly, ultimately resulting in a SMALLER DESIGN.

Since the new BQ51050B will not be available before Nov 30, I will be showcasing the design and board layout for anyone to use at TI's and My discretion!

Presenting the Qi Lime Pi SLICE..In Red, Green, Black and Moldy Purple!

imageimage

This new board is the same as the Qi Lime Pi Rev 2 but without the Prototyping area! I have made this smaller so costs will go down significantly and if one doesn't need the prototyping area, there is no reason to pay for the Prototyping area. image

These boards are on order and will be here the first part of December.

Information about the new BQ51050B from TI is available here:

Here is a video of TI testing and showing off the new chip!

Thank you and enjoy!

I will upload the Eagle Schematic and BRD (PCB) File shortly! But for now please play with the google sketchup 3D model of this board located in the attatchments.

Chad

    Hey Chad,

Do you use an autorouter, considering all your traces are diagonal? Also, you might want to look into board layout guidelines for switching converters. I guess the board will work as you designed it, but performance will not be optimal this way, probably more switching noise (both on the outputs and radiated) than necessary.  Especially routing GND and placement of input- and output caps can help a lot. Just to be sure: this is meant as positive feedback, maybe it helps in troubleshooting later on.
