Raspberry Pi - Pi Qi - Qi Pi- Qiπ - A wireless powered Raspberry Pi 1080P HD VIDEO

Hello World,

I have effectively powered the Raspberry Pi by the means of Qi Technology. I would like to present the Pi Qi or the Qiπ (Not sure what I will call it yet...Qi Pi..Qiπ)

I was sick and tired of all of the cables that had to go in the Raspberry Pi. So I bluetoothed the Mouse and Keyboard! I plugged in a Wifi USB Dongle. Now the only thing left to make it completely wireless is the Power and HDMI or video ports.

I have today taken care of the Power and the only thing left is wireless HDMI or Video! image

Here are some photos of the progress.... AND THEN THE VIDEO!!!

Coil Inside Raspberry Pi Case!

Coil Mounted Outside Case to show proof of concept and clarity!

Wires strung through case bottom.

I am just adding more pictures to create more drama and anticipation of watching the Raspberry Pi Boot up Inductively!

image

Evaluation Board mounted (loosely for now) inside the Raspberry Pi case! Please do not look at the solder job! I was in a hurry to watch this work!

Coil on bottom of case!

Raspberry Pi Powered up Wirelessly!

Raspberry Pi Powered up Wirelessly! Sorry, I cannot say it enough!!! image

image

Final Shot! It is fully booted up wirelessly! Nothing is better than that! An Energizer and Texas Instruments Qi Inductive Charged Raspberry Pi! THE Qiπ! (CHEE-PI)

ENJOY!

Chad, that is awesome! I love the QiPi. hehe. I am in the process of building the same exact thing, hehe. I'm thinking of putting a battery pack on the bottom of the pi and charging the batteries wirelessly…

Cool project Chad - of course there would be Gangnam Style in the video

This is way too complex... In my setup, I just bought a Powermat Power! Dual 1850 Rechargeable Battery Backup that comes with a powermat for $10 (clearance sale at Staples) and plugged it to my Raspberry. The battery pack is continuously charging while still powering my Raspberry, and if I need to move my raspberry, I take it out of the mat and it will be working for 2 to 4 hours when powered by the battery... and before the battery dries up, I'll just place it on the mat and the Raspberry will still be working...

Amazon currently has it on sale for $20...http://www.amazon.com/Powermat-Power-Rechargeable-Backup-Battery/dp/B00419ZWM2

    Hello Roland,

I agree there are a lot of inexpensive alternatives! This is a eval kit to test and develop your own kit or case!

Also, the power mat is not Qi technology so it will only work on the power mat!

We are in current development of Qi technology that we can use for all devices to make all things universally charge!

It isn't overly complex because TI has made the eval kit open for development and we can make our own Qi pcbs.

A quick fix for anything is buy a consumer product but engineers and tinkerers like to create things.

The powermat does not even have close to the power that the TI Qi technology does as far as wattage and distance from the mat!

But yes there are several ways to do this but from what I have seen and played with, Qi technology is definitely the way to do wireless power!

    According to this: http://www.wirelesspowerplanet.com/news/10-questions-for-daniel-schreiber-president-of-powermat/

Powermats are compatible with Qi Tech, in as such that Qi devices can be charged with powermats... don't really know if it's true though... I'm just saying that there's lots of sales nowadays with powermats, that it's easier to just buy one for cheap, specially if we want something similar to what you've been doing... Of course, the project you did is very commendable and innovation inspiring. However, for those of us who don't know or can't build our own, powermats are a cheap alternative...

    Hello,

I have only tested the 1st gen powermat and it wasn't Qi compatible. There may be another version out now!
