General Power Source Project Description Update - Wireless Power beyond the phone

First Post - Wireless Power - Beyond the phone - General Purpose power connection (Updated 17-04-2014)

Since the last post a lot has happened and it is sometime considered that most engineering ideas come from life experiences from the designer. In this case it has happened to me in relation to this project.

For the last 2 weeks we have had a spate of home invasions, attempted burglaries and vandalism all up and down our street. At our place, my van was broken into in the early hours of one morning and paint splattering the following day.

The incidences has ceased for the moment for which I am grateful.

From this experience it has spurred on an idea that stems from my current project listed above. Instead of creating a simple power interface for just the Flashing Light receiver, I will create that same product to be a general power supply for any product that will work effectively and under 5W.

As I live in a rental home, I am prohibited from installing system that require the need for holes to be drilled without a lot of effort to render all marks and holes after vacating. The second reason is speed of installation. To get modification done requires a substantial amount of writing and waiting for replies. In my case I originally asked to install security cameras approx 6 months ago and still have not received a response.

This problems exist for most people in rental premises so the idea spawned to create a wireless power system where the transmitter will be placed on the inside of the ceiling, and the camera (wireless) being installed underneath the same location.

2 main advantages are thought of in this application:

  1. Easy installation - With the help of neodymium magnet I instead to hold the cameras up to the ceiling and with less than 10mm distance power for the cameras can be fed through the ceiling without any holes drilled. (Neodymium magentic may cause some issues, and the effect will be taken into consideration)
  2. Quick installation - As the installation does not affect the building structure, installation is usually easy and quick so no written approval should be sought.

The main purpose of my application will still be the primary project but I feel the off-shoot of this experiment will also be direct convertible to any other application of it nature.

I have received my kit but due to the spate of issues in my location I have had to deal with security first before proceeding.
