Hi Anne, Nice project. What a smart creature! She knew to try to turn the feeder!

I’m thinking of changing the code to make it move slowly so if she happens to be around she can move if necessary (she reacts very quickly).

Thanks! I wanted to be able to put anything in there (she loves fruits and veggies), and be able to take it apart easily to clean it.

    > Cool! I had no idea so many people would want to see more CAD

It's the magic of creating something from nothing image considerations into what can effectively be mechanical design can be as interesting as the implementation itself.

    > I’m curious how well infrared sensors would work for a cold-blooded creature (her skin temp varies quite a bit).

That's a good point, I was thinking more of a beam being broken, but would it even be seen? I guess it depends how much they've been sat under the heat lamp before looking for food.

Cool! I had no idea so many people would want to see more CAD... I guess having CAD/design as my day job makes it seem much less exciting than it actually is.

I was thinking of running it slowly with low torque to make it extra safe. In general she wasn’t at all interested in messing with it even though she knew there was food hidden... I have lots of outtakes of her walking away and only one where she sat still. I’m curious how well infrared sensors would work for a cold-blooded creature (her skin temp varies quite a bit).

I could very easily watch a longer version of this with more information about the 3D design and I'm looking forward to the IFTTT implementation image Perhaps an infra-red sensor or two could help with detection of little claws so they don't get trapped? I hadn't considered getting a beardy, though I used to have a crestie image

Unfortunately the IFTTT email service was down so I couldn’t show it, but once it’s back up I can make Part 2!

Maybe I could split it into three parts... Assembly, IFTTT, and CAD/3DP/Lasercutter

Cool project Anne. Ruth certainly seems to approve too!

Are you worried about accidental activation while she is in or near the feeder? Could you look at some feedback to prevent this in a future upgrade?

Adorable.  Strong design, but worry about safety of the critter's toes when the thing turns.  Would have liked some video content on designing for 3D printing and laser cutting.  (Those are the "mysteries of the universe" to me right now.)

Watching every contestants video atm - I can only agree! For the channel we take our time, arguably too much at times though.
