That new Pi is a fantastic playground for so much projects, but I actually plan an intrusion detection system for my garage, allowing open/close/halfopen doors, put lights on or off, measure the surrounding ambient values like humidity (important, as I store the wood for winter in my garage as well) and temperature. A light sensor shall give me warnings if I forgot to put out the light after some time and so on.

My 2 grand sons are very interested in computers and electronics, whenever I visit I bring them something interesting that I've modified to present to them and they are very fascinated. I am a programmer by trade but have always been interested in electronics so I am always working on some gadget using Arduino or Pi!
I believe they are ready for the next step and would love to start teaching them more about the inner workings, how to configuration and programming of computers and I think the Pi would be a great way to start them off.

My first idea is to use this to stream video to my main TV.

I also would like to work on usingt the pi for connecting to zigbee home security/home automation devices

I would use it to show my students how interesting and fun a microcontroller application can be.

I will remove the TV from children's room, and this one will be with a parental control.
Like that I can choose what they will see, when they will see and maybe send some messages to the screen, like :
- Awake UP.
- Diner Time.
- Time to kiss parents and sleep....
