Need adaptable PS3/PS4 controller for wheelchair bound brothers

Hi Ben, my brother and I both are avid video game fans.  We also both have muscular dystrophy, which causes muscle weakness throughout our bodies.  As we grow older the abilities of our hands and arms is slowly decreasing, which also makes it hard to play games.  My idea is twofold.

First would be to basically take the guts of a PS4 controller and fit it inside a PS3 controller.  The reason being is the PS4 controller is a bit wider and it makes it harder to hold and use both sticks.  I wouldn't need the rumble motors, which would save weight.  The PS3 controller seems to fit much better in our hands.

Secondly, one my major issue is the shoulder buttons, mainly the Left L1/L2 buttons.  Due to my weakening fingers I am unable to use them.  I basically cannot play games that require those, which is very limiting  The idea is to move those buttons to the back.  I tend to rest my index and middle fingers on the back in the little curve right under those shoulder buttons, so that is where to mount them.  I don't have pics right now, but I could take some to show exactly where our hands and fingers sit on the control.

It does sound very daunting, but I would love your help.  We are big fans of the show and love your ideas.  If anyone can it's you.

Hope to hear from you!  Thanks

    Hi Jason,

Ben and Felix make one-handed controllers already for handicapped gamers, so maybe some of the mods they use for those could be adapted for your use. They sometimes do custom mods, so if you wanted to order a couple controllers you could try contacting them. Go here, http://www.benheck.com/controllers/ and click the link to email Felix.

Here are a couple close-ups of one of their one-handed controllers. In the second picture you can see that they move the upper trigger buttons down below the ABXY buttons. Something similar could probably be done for you. (In the first picture a control pad is missing, but normally that stick can be controlled by placing it against your leg.)

I know this is an XBox controller and you asked for PS. I think I remember Ben saying that the Playstation controllers are much more difficult to mod, but maybe they can do something for you.

Good luck and I hope you can keep gaming for as long as you want!
