Auto targeting sentry-gun

i have been tinkering with this project for some time, collecting materials when i happened to stumble upon them.

The idea is simple, build a motion tracking automated sentry gun/turret, shooting BB-pellets.

My idea for the setup is as follows:

  • Shooting mechanism, i would use an electric bb sub-machine gun, such as an MP5,
due to the compact size,  and its low weight.
  • aiming mechanism, use a number of beams as a zig zag lift, to raise the pew pew part,
have one of the links be adjustable by a servo, and the rest simply adjusting height,
and then use a motor to rotate the base, this would allow for wide range tracking
  • tracking/targeting mechanism, as i am not so skilled with programming,
i would have thought to program the tracking using a webcam feed to matlab,
and program the actual tracking in matlab, although i am sure a more elegant solution would be possible.
  • construction, the design could be as follows,
have a laptop (or any PC+screen config) encased in a rugged suitcase,
and the turret being placed next to the suitcase, or popping through the lid?
Deployment would then be to put the suitcase down, start the program,
and aim the webcam at the "dead-zone" (or zone of death, have not yet decided)

This could be a fun build, as it includes, programming, circuitry, mechanics and general thorough awesomeness.

This is absolutely something i would love to see a 3-part episode of, or maybe even more ?,
if not i will do it in time and link you the video on youtube might take some years).

I play a lot of air-soft/hardball and building something like this, would be a game-changer !, in the context of competitive roleplaying games, where the sentry gun must be possible to "kill" a hard-to-hit shutdown-trigger would be a cool addition, as well as a switch, this would allow for enemies to take out the turret, with a precision shot, or in close quarters, although without damaging the equipment.

    Sounds like this---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxBa5bQfTGc

I might need a few of these around the "compound"....
