Sound sensing alarm

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

Ben,

I have a terminally ill son that we have on a heart monitor at night, he's been on this for about three years now that he has gotten worse.

We use a standard baby style monitor but we hear when he's awake, laughing, ect. I would like to build something that monitors

the sound of only his alarm when it goes off and not monitor basically all or nothing with the traditional condensed mic on the baby monitor.

We still use the camera portion of the monitor. I was wondering if you could help point me in the right direction to complete this project.

Thank you,

Phil

    Hi Phil,

Have you checked with the manufacturer of the Heart Monitor to see if they have a remote alarm that can be added to the system? This would be the safest approach as they would know how to interface with the alarm without any chance of damaging it. Perhaps if you give us some more information about the configuration of the alarm we could think of something else. One idea might be to put a microphone near the alarm that is set to ignore all lower level noise but would trigger when a loud sound was detected. I will continue to try to think of other possibilities.
