Hi i enjoyed watching the episode about that printer, would like to see how to build up a laser engraving system, build up with parts from old dvd-drives / scanners, the lights from the scanner should be usable to buildup a small lightbred (like the thing Ben did with the old laptop screens. Would also be nice to monitor the engraving process through an old webcam/camera over the network, because the laser could harm the eye.
edit 04/07:
maybe it could also be possible to make it changeable to switch between an extruder for 3d printing / or easier to modify a 3d printer like the makerbot to do the engraving with a laserdiod from a blue-ray/dvd burner.
