A magnetic VA wind turbine for your home, gives out 10 kw, and small...can you make this?

Hi, I'm no expert on this subject, but I was wondering, can you make a "magnetic" Vertical axis wind turbine to create 10kw and small(or at least smaller than other 10kw turbines) and hooked up to your home?

when I say magnetic, I mean replace the turbine blades with magnets(or fix magnets on the blades), have another set mounted to create that constant movement for the generator, that way you wouldn't have to rely on wind anymore, and you could make a weatherproof box for it, hooked to an inverter and then to the fuse box.

could this work?

    Hi Josh,

Anytime you come across a situation where someone is telling you that you can get energy from permanent magnets pulling or pushing on each other you are being conned. Energy is only available as conversion from some other form of energy.  For example we can harvest energy from the motion of the air molecules in the wind with a windmill. The mechanical energy of the windmill can then be converted to electrical energy by having it move a magnetic field across a wire. At every step of the process there is a loss of energy which escapes into the environment as heat. For example if we had 10 joules of energy in the wind we might get 7 joules of energy in the mechanical movement of the windmill. The windmill might in turn produce 5 Joules of electrical energy in the wire of our generator. The 5 joules of lost energy are dissipated as heat and lost in the environment.

The magnetic field of a magnet can store energy and release energy.  For example if we push the north poles of two magnets together it will require that we apply a force. As we get the poles closer and closer together we are storing more and more energy. When we let go of the magnet this energy is released by the magnetic field pushing one magnet away from the other. In a way the magnetic field is like a spring in that we can bend it to store energy and then get some of the energy we put in back out when we remove the force.

I have seen on the internet the demonstrations where magnets are attached to a fan and other magnets are attached around the rim. Magically the fan is made to spin with no apparent source of power and power a light bulb. This is a trick, the power to turn the fan and light the bulb really come from a hidden battery or power supply that is supplying the energy to making things happen. The authors of these tricks benefit as their tricks attract views which make the advertisers on their sites pay them more.

You also asked about supplying 10kW of power. There are 746 Watts of power available from one Horsepower. This means you would have to have at least a 13 horsepower motor 100% efficient to get the 10kW power supply that you want. This is a fairly big motor and you can see that you would have to have a reasonably sized windmill to get this much power.

Sorry there is no magic source of power available as the physics of the real world always demands a source and a payment for the energy we use.

    John

Magnets are the constant source of misunderstanding with regard to energy and "anti-gravity".   However there is still a lot of mystery around magnetic forces inside molecules and atoms.

I believe in the conservation of energy law, but I do think energy can be harvested from vast sources that we haven't tapped into yet.  It would appear like free energy to us but the conservation law would still hold true, we just don't tap it enough.

Kind of like the earth's rotation concept, the conservation law does apply but it appears to be free energy.

Everyone should read this and then think about it before submitting any "new idea"
