raspberry pi style i pod touch (pi pod)

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Ok I have been watching Ben's raspberry pi builds and i think a great project would be to build a raspberry pi style i pod touch (pi pod).

It should have a 3.5 inch touch screen display, maby a custom OS for music, movies gaming Minecraft etc .

Built in battery, camera or two. Then a cool 3D printed and/or lazer cut case to hold it all together also it would be great if it was as slim as possible.

Thanks

Just posting here should get your design considered. Unfortunately, there are many fans and only one Ben, so he is unable to make many of the amazing ideas that fans come up with. You may be stuck with a regular IPod for a little while longer.

Perhaps, I am not particularly families with it though, it just seems like rasbian with some extra things for coding. Perhaps the pi version of android would be good.

I did a little more research and it turns out the pi version of android is still under development. There is a version available but it is still too slow to be useable. Until then rasbian or kano looks like the best option. Sorry.

Here, try this for the onscreen keyboard. http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=14719. I should probably warn you that for the next three weeks, I am not going to be able to post on the forums that much, so don't expect much more help for 3 weeks. If after that you still want help, that is fine, I can continue to help, but if you have one last question please post it asap so I can have a chance to reply.

What about the port on the raspberry pi like the camera port which is supposedly for a touch screen.

Could i hook up a 3.5 inch touch screen to the pi this way???

    Jacob,

I believe if it works for model B then A should work if there is enough memory free for drivers. As to how to get software take a look at this and see if that link works. It mentions driver support and a Rasbian release date for using this kind of device. Warning it may have a different chip set and will not work!!! image

Please let me know if that answered your questions ...

    Clem

    Thanks

i am still waiting for the touch screen to arrive and i am worried about the quality. Could you tell me if i will need to use a stylus or a fingernail or if a can use a finger like most modern touch screens today.

also i am thinking of using a PS3 replacement battery   http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Replace-1800mAh-Battery-USB-Cable-for-Sony-Playstation-3-PS3-Game-Controller-/251597225413

i was wondering if you or anyone could give me a link to a charging module which will enable me to charge the battery while embedded in my project, and still use the battery when it is charged.

    Thanks for any help

    Jacob

The ben heck show has recently done an episode on building your own circuit for this purpose. Alternatively, find a charger that will charge the battery on its own and wire the battery to a double pole double throw switch. Connect one side to your circuit and the other to a jack and then your battery charger.
