Recently came across an idea for a Braille Ereader, that instead of a tablet form with full pages of braille, it has one or two cells of Braille under the users finger, then uses some sort of scrolling mechanism to be able to navigate a "page" of text without having to have the cost and form factor associated with gigantic braille displays, as they are expensive as hell and kind of locked down to a few manufacturers.
Here is the thing, that everyone I've talked to who knows something about the matter, sighted or otherwise, thinks that it's a decent idea but falls apart when users would try to read a novel or an email a single character at a time. I understand the concern, but I think that whatever tracker scrolling technology exists today to make it fluid enough not to matter. My question is does this seem like a doomed project to begin with, or could something like an Oculus Rift for Braille be plausible yet?
