I think we could solve that by make the bowl two levels.

Since I read this idea I been thinking how to do this. My brother has a handicap that makes it hard for him to load magazines for our families get togthers for shooting. Any ways here is what I came uo with (in words I am not a great drawer).

first off there would be a shallow bowl that is 3D printed. The bowl has cut outs of the caliber for which you will be loading. The cut out would be shaped excatly from the cartridge so the cartridge will only go threw the hole one way. Now under the blowl would be a 3d printed plate with a groove in it for the cartridges to slide in till it gets to the loading ramp. When the bowl spins and the cartridge is riding on the groove it will get to a point in the plate where there is a hole that matches the cartridge wich allows the shell to drop a short distance on to a enclosed shallow ramp. As the shell rolls down it will be kept in the proper orientation by the ramp's side and top. At the end of the ramp there would be a space where the magazine will be locked into place. When a shell gets to the end of the ramp a small lift would lift the shell so it would roll onto the magazine then two other arms could push on the middle of the shell then a second arm would push the shell back to the shell is loaded properly. A Ardeino could be program to run the spinning bowl and the three arms to do the actual loading.

that would be a great idea I was also think that is should be a portable with a way to set the number of bullet for it to automatically load and your idea is great the plate could be interchangeable for different caliber.

yes the bowl and plate would have the proper size and shape holes for which magazine you are loading and there would be multiable sets of plates, bowls, and ramps based on what caliber you are loading.. The down side you will have to run it at a slow rate to make sure the device does not try to load a shell backwards or jam the ramp.

or make the drop from the plate to the ramp very short (like a quater of inch) and the drop also being totaly enclosed preventing the bullet from twisting or turning. But still speed would not be to fast to prevent shells jamming at the magazine when loading/

sorry ive taken so long to respond I have been thinking about the loading direction problem that we been facing. I was looking at bullet packaging most of them have a plastic or foam tray with the rear of the bullet exposed  we could design the top of the bowl that we could put that tray upside down locking in the direction from the beginning of the process
