raspberry pi

now we have a screen that uses the dsi port on the pi, how about a show where ben shows the viewers the different types of screens available for the pi, detailing the pro`s and con`s of using the screens and showing us how to step up and use the new screen, by building a raspberry pi tablet to rival the apple ipad, he could even put a solar cell on the back and sell it as a green self powered unit.

Although you said not to reply, I feel the need to apologize for the misunderstanding and if it seemed as though I was shooting your idea down, I apologize for that as well as that was not my intention…

Sadly, even with the newer models of the Raspberry Pi, the overall computing power and technical specs of the device are simply not up to par to that of an Apple Ipad, not even the 1st Generation iPad. Maybe in the future as the Raspberry Pi develops further, however the iPad is so far into newer generations that the power of the Raspberry Pi will never be able to compete, at least not while retaining its overall cheap productivity and price. Much less, there are already plenty of videos out there showing the available screens for the Raspberry Pi.

For Cory, I only have two items to remember Price (Pi:2 $35 USD, iPad:Mini $399 USD) and accessibility, iPad is a closed system, while the Pi is fully accessible and perfectly suited for education. Also, consider the program structure and chip count for both devices. The Pi runs everything through the main processor while the Apple devices have component blocks for each function. For the most part, running a device that provides streaming video (Kodi), Office Suite functions for spreadsheets, and presentations (Libre), and can still manage a Skype session and we surfing, I seriously believe I have purchased my last mainstream laptop.

I use the Raspberry Pi almost every day for a multitude of different applications such as media, arcade emulation, data server, home automation, robotics, and much more. A friend and I are currently using one of my Pi's in a Bitcoin Mining test project and study. I agree that the usefulness of the Pi is well rounded and only limited to ones imagination, don't get me wrong, I was simply stating that the Pi could not rival that of an iPad because the original poster mentioned and I quote, "Building a Raspberry Pi tablet to rival the Apple iPad". I was saying it would not necessarily rival an iPad because the computing power and technical specs simply are not on par with that of an iPad. Although that may be the case, from a different standpoint, it is completely possible to create a Pi Tablet that would potentially be better than a factory made consumer product, seeing how the Raspberry Pi is open source, so technically it has a lot more functionality than a tablet, especially considering the multitude of accessories that are compatible.
