Hey guys!
Labs around the world use pipettes with disposable plastic tips. The tips are stored in plastic boxes with a lid to avoid contamination. There are two problems that you could solve:
1.) These boxes are kinda hard to open with one hand and it would be really nice sometimes, say you are holding an opened centrifuge tube in one hand when you realize you need a tip for your pipette. You should take into account that the boxes and pipette tips are usually sterilized in an autoclave, so any kind of automatic system has to be either detachable or tough enough to survive beeing in 120°C water. Plus tips come in differents sizes for different volumes and you use about 3 simultaneously. Maybe an IR sensor to open the boxes and a timer to close them back.
2.) Sorted, easy to use refills are much more expensive than buying bulk in bags (second world problems
). Scientist got to put them into the racks one-by-one. It's mind-numbingly tedious. They could make much better use of their time. I have no simple solution for this.
