Raspberry pi zero audio system

Hi,

my idea is to use the new raspberry pi zero to make a home audio streaming system, like multi-room music streaming. I think the zero would be good as it is very small (smaller than an arduino) and has the 1Ghz processor of the pi 2, making it so fast!

I just wanted to clarify that the Pi Zero does not have the same processor as the Pi 2.

    It has a BCM2835, the same as a Pi 1, the Pi 2 has a BCM2836.

Saying that the Pi 1 is clocked at 700 MHz by default, whereas the Zero is clocked at 1 GHz, so it is significantly more powerful. I've heard of people making audio systems with the normal Pi 1, so the Zero should still be plenty powerful enough for the task. It just wont be comparable to the Pi 2, they have the same clock speed, but the Pi 2 is quad core vs. Zero's single core. Additionally the Pi 2 uses a whole different architecture, ARMV7, vs ARM11, so it is basically better in every regard.

Sounds like a really cool project though, I've thought a few times about something similar, using maybe a network of Arduinos to tell who is in which room and sending the info back to the Pi so it can chose where the audio goes.
