In this episode Ben goes over the basics of logic gates to coincide with the Hackmanji board game build.

  • This was a great video to watch during my into to digital logic circuits class. Gives a nice overall understanding and overview of the different types of logic gates. I also liked seeing you guys use this in the Hack-manji board. It was a very neat way of using basic logic as a type of puzzle game!

    I agree. I'll see if I can get Ben to go back and draw up schematics of all the transistor wiring he did.

  • For some of those starting out I think that the video was perhaps just a little bit too fast in parts and the wiring hard to follow.

     

    You could perhaps improve on this by including some simple schematics for each of the breadboard configurations shown on the video and perhaps even a fritzing type breadboard diagram.

     

    Also some of the more adventurous people might want to try following along themselves, so some links to the components used might help them as well.

  • Check this out for a course that lets students design chips from the ground up:

     

    Build logic gates out of NANDs; then build an ALU from logic gates, and integrate that into a CPU. Along the way you also get to build one-bit registers from flip-flops and logic gates, and build those into memory modules up to 64K.

     

    There is so much more to this course (you also get to learn the machine language for the computer you've built from the ground up, and then design a high level language); check out the video and the book they mention in the video:
