Challenge: Securing Pet door

Ben,

I have two cats. I have recently acquired three racoons.

 

The Racoons are coming through the cat door into my house.

I need to stop this

Some sort of motorized, RFID gizmo should work. I am not to the level where I could build this yet. Yet I need a solution quickly.

 

Please accept so I can live Racoon free. Shooting them is not an option since I live in city limits.

  • Yeah perhaps RFID tags on their collars? Have to make sure the range is sufficient, since the scanner would be on the door, tag on the collar, so there's the distance of the length of the cat's head to get past.

     

    This makes me think of my sister's fat huge cat, which actually looks like a raccoon!

     

    Could be a good project!

    What if you had like a solid door and anything can get out put then have metal posts that go in and out and prevent the door from opening inward unless those posts are retracted.  When the rfid was authorized then those posts would retract and the door could open inward because nothing in blocking it.  It's inexpensive and easy to build.
