You should check out an episode we did earlier this summer, where we made a motion controlled power glove.
It used an infrared LED to send commands to the Xbox, basically acting like a remote.
You could do the same with your project - get a small microcontroller like the ATTINY, find some Arduino code to send IR codes, find the right codes for your remote, and then add this onto your Roku remote.

Thanks Ben I will check it out. Your the man keep up the great work.
So Ben I went back and watched a few more of your episodes last night that I thought would help me with this. I was one of which was the turning the icade into a handheld mod for the iphone. Then it hit me that I don't need to start from scratch like you started with the icade. So i got out my box of electronics parts and found the crappy remote that came with the TV. I opened it up and looked and the real guys of it were not much larger then a quarter. So I looked to the Roku remote and it will totally fit. So I cut everything out and started working and got all the connections soldered all my connections so I can now touch two wires together to turn on/off power, controll volume and change inputs.
I now only need to make some holes in the Roku remote and take some of the buttons off the old remote and mount them inside. I will maybe make a video of my status when I get the buttons connected and then another with the finished project.
Thanks again for your cool show Ben it really inspires me to do cool stuff.
