Episode Idea

heres an idea since youve already talked about the Raspberry Pi and have Sponsored Rev3 episodes that involved the RPi, how about building a 22 inch laptop using these minimum specs:

Monitor:

Asus VE228H 21.5-Inch Full-HD LED Monitor with Integrated Speakers

http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VE228H-21-5-Inch-Integrated-Speakers/dp/B00413PHDM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1349558416&sr=8-2&keywords=Asus+ML228H+21.5%22+Full+HD+LCD+Monitor

Raspberry Pi board

Any form of linux (hopefully either mint or gnome will work)

at least 6-8 USB ports for attachments such as wifi dongle, external hard drives, wireless mouse, external burn/read disc drive etc

power supply with surface push button switch or toggle switch to power on the system

built in keyboard with direct line to raspberry pi or secondary (arduino or pcb board to interface with raspberry pi)

1 or 2 micro fans to make sure everything stays cool on the case

total thickness of case and monitor closed around 1 1/2 inches

lightweight materials

I hope this build gets done because i want to learn how to do it myself because i know only about half of what i need to do to build it

thanks for all you do Ben its good to see those out there inovating the world around us

This can be done straight out of the box with a Raspberry Pi.

Raspberry Pi has HDMI output that can be directly connect to the HDMI of your monitor.

The Raspberry Pi USB port can be connected to a multiport USB Hub to provide access to your 8 or more USB ports.

For the keyboard and mouse you can use some of the USB ports.

If the power supply of the monitor is sufficient, you could power the Raspberry Pi and peripherals with it too.

Then you can use your monitor power switch for everything.

If the power supply is not sufficient which is most likely the case, then you can use one a master sensing power board.

You can connect your LCD monitor to the master socket and have the Raspberry Pi Power supply driven from a Slave socket.

Be very very careful if you are dealing with High voltages! Make sure all safety precautions are met to guard against electric shock.

Once you have it all working then you can encapsulate the "Notebook" with your own custom designed box.

If you want to use a wireless mouse and keyboard, just connect a wireless keyboard/mouse dongle to one of the USB ports.

I foresee this project mainly consisting of a lot of wire harnessing work.

    I hope this helps you!
