An "old record player"?

Hello guys,

i have seen Ben heck show, really love it, interesting, so that why i want Ben to make some kind of disk player that can play old record disk to display video output not just sound, or translate the ripple sound into some kind of data than translate into video, or it can store data same funtion as compact disk, with this the old disk record is much durable that the modern compact disk

If you want to just display the sound wave them your best bet is probably to hook your record player up to an ossiloscope.

Short awnser, No it can not, The grove the needle goes threw is literally the sound. When recorded for the first time the sound enter the microphone and goes to a device that literally scratches the master record surface. you can not scratch a video to a surface, it is to much data. When 8-tracks and video cassettes cam along they recorded the sound magnetically which led to storing data to a cassette which you could store some pictures but you needed the large reel to reel computer tapes to store very small amounts of pictures.

owh i see, yeah that make sense, that why a cassette is created at 1st place, thank for the answer, most appreciate it, but it would be cool if the old durable the master record disk could do much as compact disk. as you said the master record black disk can do at least little data but cannot do much data as to store video data, but if it were to translate into electronic by scratching the surface, there at least some byte of information, can it? as like floppy disk...?

no, the mediums are totally different. The record stores a physical score and floppy's disk store magnetically. The amount of sound data being stored is minute no where near a byte while a video is usually the gigabyte size. Plus the phonograph only takes one data line at a time ie the sound wave, while a dvd is scannin many more lines all at the same time to produce a video.

Sound (mono) can be modelled as a one-dimensional function of time, video cannot.  Video is two-dimensional, and if it is broadcast or recorded by a one-dimensional medium, some kind of sync signal must come into play.

This is a mathematical requirement.  Scan lines are not, the signal could spiral rather than sweep, but either way you need a sync signal.

One might be able to encode digital data simply by setting high regions of the track as one and low regions as zero. If you space the regions evenly, then in theory you could retrieve the data. However, the amount stored would probably not be enough for a video.

Regardless of encoding method, you need to trigger retrace somehow going to a higher dimension, I think.  This is a topological requirement.

let Assume the record can store enough data as to store at least 1 min of video of low quality, in theory let say we make a modified old record disk with more finer crooked surface area so this would need more delicate small applier that will increase a little bit of data store availability, OK that done, then on let say there are 2 region at the surface of the record disk, one part it store signal for sound the other part store video, basically this use 2 amplifier to detect 2 signal that sync to form a video signal output, or front side has sound signal and the back side of the record disk has video signal, so the amplifier place at top and bottom side of the disk the will sync to form a video output signal, is that make sense?

this will solve the mono signal into duo signal, it this make sense?
