Using IR to control a motor

I have just started with IR (also a few other things go easy) and was wandering if I could control a DC motor with an remote I got in a kit, also I need help with the circuit mostly just wiring IR receiver Ièm very confused with certain things also how would I program the motor for when the button on the remote is pushed to turn on then stay until it is pushed again.

Do you have a microcontroller you are using for this project? I have seen some neat tutorials for using an arduino to read IR commands and then once you know what the remote control is sending, the arduino can control the motor.

I have an Arduino UNO

I'm only going to throw the concepts out there and let you have at it. I have not done a project like this before. End caveat.

First you need to read what the IR remote is saying, there are many turorials on the web for this: example

Then you need to modify that sketch to control your motor, because you haven't listed any specs on the motor other than DC, I can't point you in to many places but there are many ways to control the motor using the Arduino: example
http://playground.arduino.cc/Main/DCMotorControl

Thanks I would specify other specs on the motor but there are none that I
can find

If it's a small motor (fits in your hand) chances are these tutorials will be sufficient.
