Guitar Electrical Wiring Question

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

I know that this may be an unusual question for element14, but I figured I would ask people who know electrical theory first.

I have a Kramer 610 guitar that I am rewiring. I'm putting all new electronics in it, and have been looking at some schematics of how it should be wired. Specifically, this one.image

Looking at the schematic, it shows two 22nF capacitors, one on each tone pot. When I look at my guitar (and spoke with my uncle, who owns 8 other Kramers), it turns out that all of them seem to share one 22nF cap between the two tone pots by running a wire from the second post of one pot to the first post of the other, which also has the cap. I was curious to know how much difference it will make to follow how it was wired, compared to how it has been drawn.

Assuming that anyone is looking at this post, I just wanted to give a very belated update on the status of this question. After not taking up Mr. Goetz's generous offer of assistance (which I didn't catch earlier), I tinkered, and I played. And I found that there is a difference noticeable between having one or two caps in the circuit. I ended up wiring it with two. The main reason was that I had two available, and wasn't planning on another project of this sort for a long time, so using it wouldn't affect me that badly. The project turned out wonderfully, and I'm now excited to move on to building another (THIS TIME A MODULAR STRAT).
