I have a laptop and I use it several hours a day in the same place. I’m always trying to disconnect the power source when the battery is full and connect it when the battery is reaching a low level in order to extend the battery life.
I’m thinking on build a battery level driven outlet. It would read the battery level of the laptop through the USB port and use this measure to connect and disconnect the power source –using a relay- in order to match the optimal charge curve of the laptop’s battery.
I know it would be easier to take away the battery but I use the laptop in different places with/without outlet and it would be very annoying.
How would you build it? What would be your solution to interface the microcontroller and the laptop?
