How to connect a gamecube to an old laptop LCD screen?

I haven't tried this before, but it may be more difficult than it's worth. Ben Heck tried to re-purpose an LCD screen in his 100th episode and showed how long it takes, and he didn't even get it working all the way.

If your screen is a generic often used model there could be a driver board available(search for your type(label on the back of the screen unit) on ebay. amazon ,element14 etc.)

These cost mostly (depending on the model) 30-50€.

those driver boards are needed to build a standalone monitor out of your old screen. then you need a composite or scart to vga converter cable(4-10€) and hook up your gamecube to the screen.

Be aware, that there are no driver boards available for the most laptop screens.

a new monitor or a used one in good shape can be purchased for the same money.

if you are planning to build a gamecube portable  you should forget the laptop screen and search for a rearview car monitor.

these are useable as they are and mostly cheaper than the driver board alone.

In general it is not worth the time trying to re-use an old laptop screen.

We are going to cover a similar topic soon with FPGA-differential signaling for an LCD, so that may shed some light on the subject.

I think i'm going to try it with this one.

I have a similar kit I used to repurpose my LCD screen from my droped dead HP laptop from years ago.  I sent the model of the laptop screen to them so the board could be prepared to properly drive the screen.  I hooked up everything and low and behold it worked great.

Since this was a 17 inch screen I was wondering what I could use it for.  I started using it with the XMB media center for the Raspberry Pi I have.  So I got to thinking it would be cool to have a portable work station for the Pi or use it for entertainment.  Right now I have a rough case built.  Its nothing fancy like Ben Heckendorn benheck does but its a start.  I am currently looking into 3d printers to design some mounts for the screen clutches to mount into so I can close the case with the screen, KB, etc will fold into a portable unit.  I'm hoping I may actually have time to complete the project by spring time permitting.  Then its back to attempting a 4x4x4 RGB LED cube.

I would have to agree with benheck.

Albeit you can sometimes find a universal driver board that would work, it is not really worth it as there is no guarantee it would work.

I believe the new episode Ben mentioned above will be quite a helpful one, as the topic of reusing old laptop screens seems to be a popular one.

If your panel is one of those specified then great. Assuming it all works together nicely.Mind you for this price you are well on the way to a new monitor with a warranty.
