6v motor not working as expected

Hi

This problem is hard to explain so I uploaded a short video as a visual aid:

(Sorry for the bad quality, I seem to have misplaced my HD camcorder)

I'm powering it from a 5v DC wall wart and I have an identical motor that seems to be working fine.

Does anyone know what is wrong with it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Will

Hi Will, I have been playing with motors like this since childhood, it seems that the Brushes of the motor have Worn Out or are not in contact with the Commutator, or one of the three Windings are not…

These motors are not that hard to open as they are not glued or screwed together, the plastic half slides inside the metal cover and 2 metal clips at the side, just bend those out and the plastic part…

    Hi Will,

I did forgot that you were using a wall wart, but if the other motor is working fine with it, then still the problem is with this motor, there must be some metal dust collected between the commutator, which might be causing short and overloading the wall wart, I will still suggest you to to open up the motor and clean it with WD-40 or something, also inspect the windings and the brushes..

    Regards,

    Saurabh Gohe.

How do you suggest I open it up? The only possible join is between the

    plastic and the metal casing.

    Thanks, Will
