Vape mod from Gameboy Color

Hello,

 

So I'm wanting to build my very own vape mod box and I'm still very new at circuitry so I was hoping to get some guidance on how I could build a circuit board setup that could utilize the gameboy colors directional pad, start/select, and a/b buttons to control the Vape. I figured the directional pad could be used to change voltage/wattage, a and/or b to "fire" the Vape and select/start to turn off and on the whole thing. I would also want to use the gameboy colors screen area to show the amount of voltage/wattage it's set to

and the led spot as feedback for firing. I realize this might be a little much for someone just starting out, but I figured I've got to start somewhere. Thanks in advance for any tips or advice.

  • Whilst I can't condone your decision to vape, I can give some help with hacking the gameboy. First of all, make sure you use a broken gameboy for this project, the internal circuitry is largely not needed for this project, and killing a functional unit would be a waste. You will also need to completely replace the screen as interfacing with the existing one would require a large amount of work. To use the buttons, locate the tracks going to the button contacts on the board, remove some soldermask and attatch wires to them. You may also need to cut some traces if the buttons share a common ground. Alternatively, you could try and mount some tact switches inside the unit. This would change the feel of the buttons, and they would need to be firmly mounted, but it is theoretically easier than the other option.
