My PS4 YouTube application doesn't like The Ben Heck show...

Same for me.

But why only TBHS?

I've seen people mention this a lot in the YouTube comments. We have no idea what causes it. I don't have a PS4, myself, to see what happens and troubleshoot it.

It freezes every single time I start TBHS, it doesn't really matter what episode, but it freezes. Other video's play just fine... It wasn't always like this, but I can't remember when it started.

Even watching episodes on the website on the ps4 browser doesnt work.  When the login popup page comes up the ps4 browser doesnt know what to do.. 

I'll put a ticket in over at element14 to investigate.  

It would be good to know the cause of this.

If anyone has any ideas or links that would shed some much needed light on this it would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect that Richard's is a separate issue - relating more to the site authentication as opposed to content playback.

Could do with some more info - such as exactly when things freeze crash, how many videos have been tried, which specific videos have been verified to crash. What stream quality settings have been tried. Has the app been updated, has the local cache been cleaned out etc.

Also no mention whether or not non-TBHS YouTube content has caused any similar issues.

A quick Google search shows that a number of people have had issues with the PS4 YouTube app hanging/crashing resulting in the need to remove it, clear out the local cache and re-install it with the latest version. Not sure if this has been tried or not however in this particular case.

YouTube transcodes user uploads to predefined templates, so it is less likely to be a user source video issue. Would be useful to know if the PS4 uses Flash or MPEG-DASH for playback. I believe YouTube currently uses MPEG-DASH with fall back to Flash.

Sounds like it is an issue with the port forwarding issue possibly. This is an issue that you will most likely find assistance with thru YouTube customer support and Sony PlayStation Network. If you know anything about port forwarding you might want to check the status of any necessary ports that are being used by the YouTube app on PS4. Other than the solutions mentioned there's not much that can be done. Certain YouTube channels just will not play on the PS4. Either the codec that  the video was recorded in is a format that the PS4 doesn't like streaming or a YouTube/PS4 server error. I have had similar issues while trying to watch the Formula Drift Channel. Could also be a licensing issue. YouTube and PlayStation customer support will most likely provide you with a solution to this issue. Also if you are not familiar with port forwarding, information can be found at portfowarding.com. I hope this is resolved soon in a timely manner. This post is getting a little bloated with text but without no solution. No issues with viewing TBHS broadcasts on iPhone, iPad, Android smartphone, Android tablet, Windows PC or any other devices. Please contact the aforementioned customer support solutions. This is a device specific issue and/or YouTube/PS4 server issue.

I experience both issues ..  Tbhs on youtube locks up the whole youtube app on ps4. I have to close the application to browse to any other video..  I dont use youtube on the ps4 much but my wife does. And she has never experienced any issues...   So i didnt really care instead i thought id try the website to stream that way. But the login page will not load on ps4 browser..  Unfortuneately my tv is one of the first smart tvs available. 2010. Sony bravia 46nx710  so the app selection is very limited. Even youtube app seems to be gone now. And i cant just screen mirror or throw to my tv like the next gen sony's.  Such is life.  Back to watching on small screens
