Commodore 64 Laptop

I’m a new user to TBHS, and have been watching his videos, i especially loved the vid’s on the Atari hand held console, and the Apple 1 build.

after watching these I felt inspired, and I have at home a couple of C64’s that still work but no PSU, or disk drive, but I do have a working dataset.

so i thought, could I use this hardware to rebuild it into a case with a 19” LCD screen and give me self a C64 I can carry round with me, a decent sized screen, as I have a 19” LCD screen in 4:3 format, but seeing as I have two C64’s I could also use parts from the other C64 to do some mod’s like the stereo SID chip mod, use an SD card for the disk drive.

So I welcome some suggestions from the community and Ben himself, about my project, inspired by some of ben’s creations.

In theory it's possible. The disc drive would be the main issue as they're huge, bulky and heavy (and I know as I've dismantled a few to repair)..

I’m planning to use an SD card to emulate the disc drive, as the disk drive is big and bulky, I saw an SD card disk drive emulator on the channel run by the 8 bit guy on you tube.

plus I need to figure out how i’m Going to send the video to the LCD screen as it uses a vga input, and the commodore only has composite and RGBI available.

I’m also looking at custom making a power supply, will probably have to base it on LIPO battery, to keep it portable and give the C64 the voltages it needs to run, but my experience with switch mode psu’s Is limited to non exsistant.

Yes, I've seen SD card readers or things that emulate the disc drive and tape player.

As for the VGA issue, I think there is a composite or RGB to VGS connector somewhere about.

    Power issues, I haven't a clue
