I modelled my portable after the Nintendo Switch and it uses a Raspberry Pi 3 and RetroPie to play games on it's 6.5" screen. It's compatible with Nintendo Joy Con controllers and can use them for single or multiplayer games. I've posted the code and 3D files here: https://github.com/imdaftmike/RetroSwitch

Some of the parts I used are below:

  • Raspberry Pi 3
  • AT065TN14 LCD
  • Nintendo Joy-Cons
  • Adafruit PowerBoost1000C
  • Arduino Pro Micro
  • MAX17043 Fuel Gauge
  • 3.7V 3000mAh Lipo battery
  • 20 pin 0.5mm FFC Cable (100mm length)
  • 20 pin 0.5mm FFC Board Connector (Top Contacts)
  • 20 pin 0.5mm FFC Board Connector (Bottom Contacts)

wow, just wow very well lit, camera work is on point, you have the console! I need to know how you've added the border / overlays(?) to the games. Good luck!

Very impressive build. I really like that you included the kickstand, it makes it that much more versatile.

I made the bezel from a glass screen protector for the real Switch. I masked it off with tape and spray-painted the backside so that the front would stay glossy. I write a very tiny bit about it at the end of my post here.

    Hey Mike,

How did you make screen look "reflective" like that? And the bezel? I want to make something like this myself at some point as well, thats why.

The Switch is a great form factor for a portable. Glad to see you got it working!

    Great project and presentation.

You did a great job of walking through your thought process, starting with design and then accommodating engineering to fit design, which I imagine was a lot more difficult than you made it look.

You did a really good job of presenting content that was informative and useful!

A Pi Switch would be welcome addition to any rooftop party!

That turned out looking just like a Switch. Super cool build and loved watching the process. Great job!
