Plan to Hack Like Heck: Start from scratch. Replace current Pi with Rasp Pi compute module 3, making it easier to build as a kit or from scratch, while increasing processor power. Switch to a 4:3 screen to better represent the "retro" feel. Ergonomic case design usign 18650 batteries.

  • I am, unfortunately, going to have to gracefully bow out of this competition. Mostly, it's job related, I got into a minor accident, and that has significantly increased the time between now and getting home. Job searching is still ongoing, but until I can get home to do some proper job searches (and work on this project) it's being put on hold until I can take care of myself, and my family. I will still be doing this build, even though I won't be able to actively participate in this challenge, so if you care to see how things progress starting the beginning of April - please just look up my youtube channels - A Fat Man, A Fat Man Running, A Fat Man Vlogging, and A Fat Man Making, each targetting different areas of what I do.

     

    I really had considered this a great opportunity as I had planned on starting a youtube channel as a fan page of Ben Heck (something I started working up a few months ago) and had, for a time, been called "The Heckin' Ben Fan Show" but once I started working things up - due to copyright infringement issues (didn't want to even try it), I decided on the somewhat more suitable monicker "A Fat Man." So, affiliated with Ben Heck/Element14 or not, I will continue to do this, just not under the shelter of the Element 14 community. Perhaps in a year, when I've done a number of videos and builds, and garnered a bit of a fan base, I'll be able to get some small sponsorships from different companies like Element 14.

     

    I'm still watching other people's videos and builds. This is a fun challenge, with or without me!

    Btw your choice of channel Name "A fat man...." is Genius, I wish I had thought of that.

    They will be in short order. Unfortunately, it will be right at the end of this month, so only about 3 days to complete the entire build for this project so, unless I can pull off some houdini level building (the 3d print alone might take that long), this sadly won't be finished in time. (And I have everything else, sitting at home just waiting for me to mess with it).
