You've seen it before.
A great photo that evokes an emotional response and stays with you long after its taken away from you.
If you grew up with Life magazine then you know what I'm talking about. Life magazine was the first all-photographic magazine in America.
One of its most famous photos was captured by the photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt. It portrays US navy sailor grabbing and kissing a stranger on Victory over Japan Day in Times Square in New York.
Ask any photographer and they'll tell you that photography is its own language and simply another means of communication. Its a picture language and the newest version of the oldest form of graphic communication.
The purpose of a photo can be to inform, glamorize, open new realms of discovery, preserve and catalog knowledge or facts, entertain, and as a means of self expression.
Visual storytelling is a way of arranging photographs, either chronologically or in a series, with the aim of infecting the viewers vision and mind.
A photograph has all the elements that go into storytelling. The means by which people understand the world around them. A photograph can be used to convey a mood, an emotion, ideas, narrative, and message.
