Build Inside The Box Challenge! -- Episode 500

 

Welcome to the 500th episode of element14 presents!  We decided to try something new for this episode - pitting three of our content creators against each other with the limitations of creating a working project with all of the parts in THE BOX.  We also challenged the community members with the same restriction - you can see their projects here.

 

James, Clem and Katie are competing in this challenge - but they're playing for their favorite STEM organizations.  See more about the competition.

  • I wanted to make sure I put all the things I liked about each of the builds.  While voting is great, I wanted to make sure everyone knew that they were all awesome builds!  Great job! image

     

    Clem's Parcel Measurer (CPM) - Honestly from the video I had no idea what it was going to look like or how it was going to work but it ended up being something that is very solid and has a great purpose.  I could see this in a Post Office.  Awesome work!

    Katie's Digital Theremin (KDT) - I enjoyed seeing the creative idea behind this one!  This would be something that anyone could bring out during a party for at least a conversation starter or for just good old fun...  Great work Katie!

    James' Baldcoder (JBC) - The finished product is so sleek and stylish!  Great representation!  The added buttons that change the displays are a nice touch that makes the total build more "realistic".  The LED lights on the top, very nice!  Just like in Star Trek, I could see Doc using this to scan the captain...  Very impressive James!

     

    Your work on these videos impress me so much!

    I'm so jealous of the environment you all have and the collaboration between everyone!

    Corporate feels cut-throat to me anymore, only worrying about the bottom line instead of envisioning new ideas and ways to make our future better for everyone... I wish I had taken a different route so that I could build with electronics as my daily job...

    Thank you for the comments! When the idea was first coming together I was excited. And then when I was told I'd be competing against Katie and Clem, I immediately thought: "what did I just get myself into?"

     

    Overall the challenge was fun. I hope we get a chance to do something like this again in the future. Beating Clem might become my new favorite hobby.
