Very good build.

Fans usually specify cfm or c-in/min. I'd considered using a 12v plug in windshield defroster for a blower style flame effect (disconnecting the heater element) on projects. I've opted to use led flame bulbs in those type of projects.the bulbs can be opened, and the led sheet inside can be unfurled to make a flat screen flame effect if desired. Your choice is best in your case as it is not so dependent on viewing angle.

The NRF52840-DONGLE might also work

I wonder if there is an easy solution to the lack of PWM outputs when using Arduino with the Nano 33 BLE, the underlying chip should be capable of doing this, it has 3 PWM modules with 4 outputs each. A similar board is the Adafruit ItsyBitsy nRF52840 Express which might be the answer for the main board and perhaps Seeed XIAO BLE nRF52840 for the remote. I had originally picked the same boards for both remote and main to avoid having communications challenges. 

I knew the super small fall wasn't going to be enough but the next size up seemed like it was going to work. Not sure if it was my 3D printed channel that stopped it working or if it was because I went a little bit bigger on the flames. Luckily I had some big fans that worked on 12v, but would have preferred the blower style if I'd have had ones with the right flow rate. There's probably a way of estimating flow rate based on diameter and rpm but the fan blade geometry likely also affects things.

The video storyline was good too

A hot project :-) I really enjoyed how it grew and got strapped into a backpack.....all my projects start out small and with workscope-creep, need a truck when Im done. :-)
