It is hard to solder tiny components while filming it. To proved better footage for YOU  the viewers, Clem builds a CNC controlled machine that allows him to solder without having to touch the workpiece or the soldering Iron himself. The Foundation for a fully automated soldering robot!

can you automate it to work with a sensor to keep it focused on the work while staying out of your way

Great Build Clem. I have a similar use for an X,Y,Z stage to capture micro-photographs, so I was very happy to see your build. thanks DAB PS, I would like to see an automated soldering robot built out…

I also was thinking of using it for focus stacking in macro photography!

Interesting concept--especially for those really tedious jobs!

I'm thinking I'm gonna have to build a de-soldering robot.... image

it is moving pretty slow, but of course if you overload on solder a blob might leave it anyway.
the key is to be conservative on adding solder. depending on the application I use it manually or automated(depending on if I have a hand free)

With the lever action on the soldering tip, are you noticing any solder leaving the tip as it lifts? It would be a shame if a blob ended up elsewhere on your work piece or camera lens after going to this trouble.

    Awesome build!

..never mind just watched it again and it didn't look like the tip was moving as fast as I thought it was..

Thats a neat idea. How do you think would it work?

What kind of srnsor are you thinking of?
