Clem has built a giant resin based 3d printer concept in a previous video, and today it is time to put the concept upside down! The people on the element14 community gave him a lot of advice and ideas to make his idea finally work as it should! Clem builds a second iteration of his 3d printer using daylight resins and easily obtainable parts.  The new Raspberry pi 4 8 GB reduces slicing times and makes for a more responsive GUI on this experimental 3d printer! Now its time for the community to take his findings and iterate  for a bright future of cheap huge 3d printers!

    I actually have that exact breakout in stock, but the catch is that Nanodlp only Accepts the Display conenctor or HDMI1 as valid outputs.

    the software is not open source so I can't change that.

    Just checked the spec sheet on the Midas screen, it’s still usable if you have not thrown it out.

     

    The TFT screen uses a 40 pin ribbon connector if you can get to this connector you can plug it into a breakout…

    No, haven't worked on that project since Part2
    Exposure settings are dependent on the individual needs of each single resin and light source, so no information that Icould gather would apply to someone elses machine.
    the light source is switched on and off inbetween layers at set times that are determined in the slicer.(curing time, curing delay/mask delay and so on)

    Hi, any progress with the parameters for the exposure times?

    I would like to know if you are continuosly printing or you have to switch on/off the exposure source and move the piece downwards for the resin to flow over it and keep the exposed surface correctly covered in liquid resin.

    I am thinking you will get better print results with an even layer of resin to start each layer.

    Have you considered using a small vibrator to disperse the fluid over the surface evenly?

    Nobody apart from the devs knows how nanodlp does access the screen, the only options you have are HDMI1 and the disply connector, yo ucant configure it to use any other outputs, I had to trick it to even run on a Pi4 as it expects only one hdmi output and wont show anything if two are present and not previousli configured to use hdmi1. (on the pi3b+ its HDMI1 and the p4 had HDMI0 and HDMI1_>it defaults to 0 which is not recognized by nanodlp)

    the software is not open source so i can look into it.

    the display for sure is salvageable for other projects.

    I Did a little bit of investigation and as long as it is a 40pin flat cable they all appear to be the same standard arrangement and the spec sheet did not list that specific detail but if the tft module Component of the Midas screen uses that flat 40 pin connector, then it’s possible to salvage the screen.

    When the RPi is configured using the GPIO for the connection to the screen how does the OS see the screen?

     

    if it is a connected display won’t the software still be able to see it?

    Hehe, that was in the kit we got for the hacklikeheck  contest not sure if these are compatible though, as the flat cables of the displays vary so much.
