Bald Engineer: James

James

image

Back when James was in high school and had hair, he grabbed a soldering iron for the first time. Repairing a Heathkit training board immediately hooked him on electronics. Well, after the burns healed. His first hardware hack was changing the RC oscillator on his TI-85 calculator to make games, like Breakout, run at a reasonable speed. During the PS2 gaming era, he created UnitiBlue, a modular adapter to use classic console controllers with PC emulators. (Back then we said “classic,” not “retro.”)

Today James 3d prints, laser cuts, and solders together things that beep, blink, and fly. Known as the Bald Engineer, he writes engineering articles, makes Arduino tutorials, and rants about capacitor types. His YouTube channel, AddOhms, features simple animated tutorials to explain electronics to everyone.

I confirm that these slips changed the way I use the tester! John kindly gifted me a set time ago and I can't live without them. A simple idea that makes the difference! Enrico

Hi Brian, thank you for posting a message. I suspect you are trying to address the element14 community as a whole and not just myself.

For the element14 videos, there is always a page associated with the video. It contains a list of components used, related links, and sometimes additional content. Regarding bill-of-materials, most of those pages link to a distributor from the element14 community's owner company. In the US, that would be Newark.com.

Those same video-specific pages are an excellent place to ask questions or leave comments since the person who made the video will see a notification. (All of the videos on the element14 Presents YouTube channel have a link to the associated notes page on the community.)

Glad you enjoy the content, I'll be sure to share your comment with my fellow video creators.

    Cheers,
    James

    Hi baldengineer

I tried to find a way to personal message you without much luck so I will try this route. I have watched several of your presentations and they are great. I believe that you would find some of my non-slip probe tips very useful. If you would like to try a set let me know and I will  make arrangements for you to get a set.

The Non-Slip Probe Tips make it to market!

If you can't personal message me or request a contact perhaps one of the element 14 staff can put us in touch.

    John
