A Bald Engineer Video: MOSFET Tutorial

 

 

MOSFETs are the most common transistors used today. They are switches that can be used an Arduino, BeagleBone, or Raspberry Pi. When it comes down to it, MOSFETs are pretty complicated devices. This video will cover the basics of what you need to use them in your circuit, including calculating if you need a heat sink or not. Learn what they are and how to use them.

 

 

  • This video is misleading in that it confuses Vgs(th) with the Vgs for some specified Gate-Source resistance, for example on the IRLI540N Vgs(th) is between 1 and 2 V for 250uA drain current but eh on resistance is specified for Vgs = 4V, 5V or 10V.

     

    The video keeps referring to Vgs threshold as if it were the working Vgs for low on resistance, which it is not.

     

    Vgs(th) is the gate source voltage below which the device is turned off, it is not the working gate source voltage for switching applications.
