Generating signals with a waveform, function, or arbitrary generator lets you test all kinds of circuits. Learn how to get a function generator to output a signal, the 3 types of waveforms you can create, and which controls matter. James, the Bald Engineer, explains the difference between analog and digital generators.

Supplemental Material:

  • B&K 3010 Function Generator Schematics
  • 25 common things you can do with an arbitrary function generator

If you want we could do a demo + talk on one of your live sessions; with your instrument? The required LabVIEW community Edition software is free for community use.

That's awesome work! I saw one of your posts in the feed yesterday(?) but I have not had a chance to check it out.

I have only done a little bit of LabVIEW work, so I am interested in reading through your approach.

baldengineer, it turns out that the function generator you use in the video can be programmed.
I've developed a LabVIEW driver for it over the last week (attention: long blog series. Driver uploaded to the last article).
