Corona Cap

After seeing some 3D printed masks, I was inspired to make a simple one that could clip onto the brim of a baseball cap. It turned out to be a very lightweight transparent barrier that can prevent spray from reaching your face and prevent your spray from getting on someone else. The 3D printed frame simply clamps a photocopier transparency in a curved shape and clips it to the brim of a hat. You can also wear a filter style mask under it, if you need more protection.

It fits differently on different hat brims, but it can be positioned reasonably on most of them....

Flatter brims work better with this design....

Here it is on a Med-Eng cap

Here it is on an element14 cap.

If you want to try this build, there are 3 .stl files in the attached .zip file.

One file is the curved rail that everything mounts to.

One file has the two clips that attach the rail to the cap brim.

One file has three small clips to attach the transparency to the rail.

My other ideas for fighting viruses are here:

Stay safe....

Good point. I'm always touching my face. With a face shield I might not need my cone anymore!

Looks a good lightweight solution. How is the plastic sheet optically? Does it make it a bit blurred? Dubbie

    Hello,

    I cannot open the capmaskSTL.zip

    Hi Mario,

It works for me. I can unzip it to get 4 stl files, and they all seem to look fine.

    Maybe a system glitch? Try re-downloading from element14 ?

(I'm on a Mac, but that shouldn't matter I think)

    Cheers,

    -Nico

Nice. This solution can be  re applied for face and eye protection when doing projects around the house.

    Thanks Douglas!

I printed out a set using your gcode files, after replacing the header with one from my own prints (there were subtle differences. I'm not sure if they mattered).

I'm having trouble with the 3d printed clips, or maybe the bar itself, not quite fitting. But I used some document clips to make it work.

Here's me sporting an authentic Douglas Design shield...

I might have to wear the cap a bit higher to get higher coverage, but overall it works well. note the little document clips addition. and the element14 cap image

We have to take our kitty to the vet tomorrow image so we'll have to chat with someone for a bit. We have some face masks that my wife sewed today, which we'll add to it.

The vet is picking up and dropping off CharlieKat outside of the clinic, so we're able to maintain pretty good distancing, but I think for in-person chatting, even with 6 feet distance, a few extra precautions are good for both directions.

    Cheers,

    -Nico
