Esp32 failed to connect to Mosquitto MQTT Broker

Hello everybody I'm facing a problem in my home automation project that is based on a mosquito mqtt broker that needs to connect to some clients on the same network (node red, esp32, mqtt client app on the phone) but the problem that whenever I try to connect to the server form outside the hosting machine I fail. For example the connexion to node red that is executed on the same machine as the mqtt server is working like a charm but Any other client on the same network is blocked . I tried to create a new rule in firewall to open the 1883 port, but when I do a test using Nmap I find that the port is filtered. Also, I had some difficulties accessing the config file for mosquitto in this latest version can anyone help me please

Hi, There must be many answers to this, depending on what you're running the server on. I really think google is your best friend here. For example, see the answer here, which lists the steps to resolve…

Hi Waxore, I actually just set up a Raspberry Pi with Node-Red and Mosquitto, and set up a Wemos D1 Mini ESP8266 to connect to Mosquitto to report sensor data via MQTT. Similar to you, I was able to test…

    Hi Waxore,

I actually just set up a Raspberry Pi with Node-Red and Mosquitto, and set up a Wemos D1 Mini ESP8266 to connect to Mosquitto to report sensor data via MQTT.

Similar to you, I was able to test MQTT on the Raspberry Pi itself, but the ESP board could not connect.

Turns out I have my Raspberry Pi plugged into the wired ethernet in my house, and I was connecting the ESP board to the guest WiFi network. The guest network is purposely separated from my main home network for security reasons. Once I switched the ESP over to connect to my internal home network WiFi, it all works properly now.

Hoping yours is as easy a fix!

    Best of luck,

    -Nico
